Thinking about virtualisation? Think RightFax...

Server consolidation and virtualisation have become primary objectives in many organisations recently. The latest release of RightFax version 9.4 in conjunction with Brooktrout’s SR140 ‘soft’ cards has made including RightFax as a part of this strategy possible.

RightFax has predominantly been deployed with physical Brooktrout fax boards.  In later years these were provided with IP-based fax capabilities that provided a migration path for customers wanting to integrate RightFax into their VoIP environment.

The business and technology benefits of IP based fax boards include:

  • Reduce network costs and complexity of fax structures
  • Extends the benefits of a VoIP implementation to include Fax over IP (FoIP)
  • Future proof your RightFax investment

While this upgrade path is significant, it has not provided a strategy for organisations with a requirement to virtualise their RightFax Server, considering that the physical fax board has remained an impediment up until this point.

This recommended solution meets the requirements for organisations that are executing a server hardware consolidation and virtualisation strategy, and or an IP-PBX and Voice over IP telephony (VoIP) strategy.  Currently RightFax 9.4 supports VMWare ESX server 3.0.1 or higher.

The solution has been successfully tested for interoperability with a number of leading IP-PBX and VoIP gateways and can be deployed directly into SIP, H.323, or MGCP environments via Ethernet interfaces.

Captaris and Dialogic recognise the need to align RightFax with major technology trends.  Captaris product management states: “As IP technology advances and more organisations leverage the benefits of technology developments, so RightFax advances. We realise the compelling need to support Fax over IP communications and Virtual server environments as standard. This will be significantly important for current and future customers adopting or transitioning to VoIP-infrastructure or consolidating server hardware, making the role of the fax server stronger than ever.”
